Dracula has come across a young woman named Shiela Whittier, who seems to be beset by spirits in ancient Castle Dunwick. But where he might otherwise see nothing beyond another meal, he sees in Shiela a servant, one who could serve him of her own will without need of hypnotic domination.

But if this vision is to come true, he must unravel the mystery of Castle Dunwick.
